Breakfast & Accomodation

Accommodation

Apollo Bay

If wanting budget accommodation for the Friday night before the race entrants should contact the Apollo Bay Hostel directly to book:

Apollo Bay Backpackers Lodge. This is budget style accommodation with 4 bunks to a room with shared bathroom facilities (recently upgraded bathrooms). These beds are at backpacker rates (confirm with Hostel) and are within walking distance of the start. Otherwise there are many other options including the Best Western which is right behind the hotel.

Port Campbell

Port Campbell is only 12km from the finish-line at the 12 Apostles. Runners are encouraged to stay the Saturday night post race in Port Campbell so you can attend the race presentation and breakfast on Sunday morning. Most runners stay at the Port Campbell Hostel. If you would like to stay at the Port Campbell Hostel you need to contact the Hostel directly: (03) 5598 6305. Be sure to tell them you are part of the race. Once the Hostel rooms are full, or if you prefer more privacy, there are many other options available here GreatOceanRoadAccommodation and Otways Accommodation

Other Accommodation Options

As Apollo Bay is primarily a tourist town there are many options for accommodation. It is a good idea to book early though to ensure best value for money. There are many recommendations on the Tourism sites listed in the Useful Links below.

Port Campbell has many accommodation options besides the Hostel.

Nestled along the Great Ocean Road near Johanna are The Boomerangs, stylish and award winning accommodation.

Transportation

Getting to Apollo Bay

Apollo Bay is approximately 3 hours drive from Melbourne and 2 hours drive from Geelong (via the inland route).  Public transport options are available but convoluted and slow.

Unless you need to go into Geelong for supplies, it is advisable to take the ring road around Geelong to save time. The southern terminus of the ring road is where you need to decide whether you are going to take the scenic and slower coastal route (head to Anglesea) or the quicker, inland route (continue towards Colac but turn off just past Winchelsea and follow signs to Apollo Bay).

Interstate Runner Transport

For interstate travellers, Avalon Airport is the closest Airport (near Geelong) but Tullamarine Airport in Melbourne (Melbourne's main airport) can also be easily used.  While Avalon Airport is much smaller and limited in services, it does offer hire cars through the major companies but pre-booking is required.

Finish Transport

There won't be any formal transport from the finish into Port Campbell. We will rely on ride sharing with other crews and endeavour to get all runners into Port Campbell as quickly as possible while saving money and resources by not using a bus.

Port Campbell to Apollo Bay Sunday morning
The will be a bus from the Port Campbell Hostel back to Apollo Bay on the Sunday after the presentation for $35 (price to be confirmed).
This can be booked and paid for during online registration.
